Palestine

In April of 2014, I had an opportunity to travel and work in the West Bank with a group of German, French and Italian and Palestinian painters. My interest in the region goes back to my days at the University of Colorado where I worked under Professor Edward Rozak completing an Independent Special Studies on the Middle East.  When a residency in Palestine was proposed, I jumped at the offer.

It was a plein air painting residency but my work was more about the gathering of information than  recording local images on paper or canvas. Observation, walking, meeting people, exploring, writing and painting informed my process. The information and images that resulted from this exploration channeled into the word 'river'.   This symbolises the concept of truth and knowledge flowing from the places and lives in Palestine to the world beyond the wall.
